Objectives:
GSM, the Global System for Mobile Communications is the world’s
dominant mobile technology with around half a billing users. GSM has been enhanced
in an evolutionary way by adding extra components to provide GPRS, the General
Packet Radio System which can deliver data at up to around 30 to 40 kbps.
EDGE, which used to stand for Enhanced Data for GSM Evolution and nowadays often stands for Enhanced Data for Global Evolution, is an upgrade to the radio interface of GPRS that trebles the data throughput, hence often also referred to as EGPRS.
This one day course provides an update to delegates who are already familiar with both GSM and GPRS, explaining the new radio interface and the changes to GPRS necessary to support EDGE.
For delegates who have some familiarity
with GSM but not GPRS, a companion course to this one includes the necessary
GPRS background.
