Objectives:
EDGE, which used to stand for Enhanced
Data for GSM Evolution and nowadays often stands for Enhanced Data for Global
Evolution, is an upgrade to the radio interface of GPRS that trebles the data
throughput of GPRS, hence often also referred to as EGPRS. For suitable customers,
it is better than the Third Generation, UMTS and third generation operators
are starting to see it as a complement to the Third Generation rather than a
competitor.
This one day course briefly reviews data across GSM networks then introduces GPRS and then EDGE. This evolution is relatively cheap for operators but has proved technically difficult to achieve and has little market acceptance, at least in the UK.
This course is intended for planners and strategists within mobile operators’ organisations. It does not assume a technical background nor does it swamp the delegate with technical data, rather, it concentrates on market forces and opportunities.
