Aims:
This course provides the delegate with a general understanding of Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networking. It will look at PVC and SVC connections and the relevant signalling and addressing required. LAN Emulation (LANE) will be discussed and the resilience issues explained. Finally quality of service and bandwidth management will be explored.

• Describe the ATM architecture (reference model).
• Discuss the ATM cell format.
• Describe PVC and PVP connections.
• Understand UNI, NNI and signalling (PNNI).
• Introduce and explain the ATM adaptation layers.
• Define how SVC's work.
• Explain ATM LAN Emulation.
• Look at quality of service issues.
• See how Layer 3 switching is achieved.
