Aims:
This course introduces you to the vocabulary, terminology and principles of  Switches and Routers.

Objectives:

• Explain the techniques, principles and technology related to Switching and Routing.
• Introduce the Spanning Tree Algorithm and how it applies to switched networks.
• Explain layer 2,3 and 4 routing and switching.
• Explain how to deploy and troubleshoot switched and routed networks
• Examine distance vector, link state and policy routing protocols, including RIP, RIP2, OSPF, IS-IS, IHRP, EIGRP, BGP and others.
• Introduce multicast routing including PIM, IGMP and others

Who should attend:
System integrators, consultants, communications specialists, support personnel and network administrators who need an overview of switching and routing.

Prerequisites:
Internetworking with LANS and WANs (ETS328), or alternatively, a basic knowledge of  networking as provided by Data Comms & Networking Fundamentals (ETS301).
