Aims:
This course provides you with an overview of the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). The course is theory based, but there will be an opportunity to apply some of the theory to a live network.

Objectives:

• Explain the function of a network management protocol and describe the different approaches available.
• Examine the history and development of SNMP.
• Explain how the SNMP protocol works.
• Explain the features of RMON and SNMPv2.
• Explain the concepts of a Management Information Base (MIB) and describe the various MIBs available, both private and public.
• Explain the Structure of Management Information and how to read definitions.

Who should attend:
Technical specialists, network administrators, support personnel and managers who need an overview of network management within a TCP/IP environment.

Prerequisites:
Internetworking with TCP/IP (ETS308) or a working knowledge of TCP/IP is required.
